In 1955, the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union set out to find affordable dental health coverage for its members and their families.  The search led them to ODS, founder of the first prepaid dental plan in America.  Ever since, ODS has remained a pioneer in affordable health plans.  With our innovative, evidence-based health plans, our diverse networks and member programs, and our superb customer service, ODS continues to be the health leader throughout the Pacific Northwest.

ODS is URAC certified.  URAC is an independent, nonprofit healthcare accrediting organization dedicated to promoting healthcare quality through accreditation, certification and commendation. Through a wide range of quality benchmarking programs and services that keep pace with the rapid changes in the healthcare system, URAC provides a symbol of excellence that demonstrates an organization’s commitment to quality and accountability.

The OHSU School of Dentistry has created an endowed lectureship in honor of Robert Gootee, President and CEO of The ODS Companies, in recognition of his contributions to the dental industry.
