new healthcare reform lawThe new healthcare law, called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), represents comprehensive healthcare reform legislation signed into law on March 23, 2010. It contains numerous provisions designed to protect consumers and promote low cost medical insurance, including many new taxes to pay for the cost.

Secure low cost medical insurance even with pre existing conditions

For many Americans with a health condition, securing low cost medical insurance can be very challenging. While employer-sponsored group health insurance has always been the predominate method for obtaining medical insurance, this trend is changing. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation 2011 Health Benefits Survey, only 60% of all employers offered group health insurance in 2011. This figure is down from 66% in 1999. California second behind Pennsylvania in Pre Existing Conditions Insurance Plan enrollment

The California Pre Existing Conditions Insurance Plan is now second behind Pennsylvania with the highest number of enrollees in the new government Pre Existing Conditions Insurance Plan. Only 2% of Federal funds spent to help uninsured secure medical insurance

Today, more than 25 million Americans are uninsured because they cannot qualify for an individual medical insurance plan due to pre existing health conditions. The new healthcare law was suppose to remedy that by requiring states to establish a Pre Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP).  While the PCIP was to provide medical insurance to individuals that are unable to qualify for medical insurance, only 21,000 enrollees to-date are enrolled, according to an audit released Friday by congressional investigators. Missouri Pre Existing Condition Health Insurance Plan Cuts Rates

Missouri’s high-risk health insurance pool, called the Pre Existing Condition Insurance Plan is cutting its rates by 23 percent. The state Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration announced the cut Tuesday. The decision affects new and existing insurance policyholders. Officials say premiums have ranged from $137 to $601 per month. California Pre Existing Condition Health Insurance Plan Lowers Rates
